audit of site

Home

Your home page looks nice.  I have several comments though about the links.

Your first link, 'Read More...' takes the visitor to your 'who we are' page - this in itself is fine, but I see two disadvantages that you should be aware of:

1. On many websites, clicking on 'Read more' opens additional text on the same page. When the visitor is finished reading, he can continue to read the other sections of the home page.

Our websites do not do that, so  when your visitor clicks that link, they leave the home page and might not return to see the rest of your content. When viewing your home page, the visitor might not even know that there is more content below that first section.   One solution would be to put a link at the end of the 'read more' article which says, 'return to home page' and takes them back to the top of the next section. I can help you with that.

2. The expectation that I have when I click 'Read more...' is that I will continue reading the article I started... Your link takes me to the 'who we are page', but when I go there, I see a lot of text in different columns and don't actually see an article that looks like it starts the same way.
The text under 'Our Mission' starts the same way as the first sentence on your home page, but doesn't continue.

One solution would be to create an article on that page, and make sure it uses the same picture (maybe a smaller version) and starts with the same sentence,

"We do support written translation, oral Bible storytelling(OBS) and oral Bible translation..." and your article continues from there.

But certainly an easier solution would be to change the text of the link to say, "Read about the history of LDBT here"

Another thing I noticed on your home page is that you have a section with three columns;  Partner With Us, Pray With Us, and Support Bible Translation.

Each title is a link to the contact page. The images for Partner with us and support Bible translation are also links, but not the image in the middle.

  • Is having the three columns all linked tocontact us page a nice idea?

Actually, I think it is not a good idea, since the content of the page does not change.
The visitor might come back to see what other content he missed, and be disappointed when the same information is seen at each link.

One advantage to having more links leading to a contact form, is that whichever one they click they will have the opportunity to contact you. But to not disappoint them, you could create three different pages, put them off menu and link to them.
Each page can have the contact form at the bottom, but will have information specific to the link in the upper part of the page.

Partner with us: what kind of partners are you looking for? This one might be used for financial partners, but then would 'Support Bible Translation'  be a different kind of support?  Prayer is a kind of partnership, too - but that is covered in the next column.  If there are financial or practical needs that people can get involved in some kind of description would be good here, as well as what information you need from them to get them to the next steps...

Pray with us: It would be a good idea to have some information on this page about prayer...

a) an affirmation from scripture about the importance of prayer

b) current or ongoing prayer requests of a general nature - which are 'safe' for everyone and anyone to see

c) description of prayer  information that people can request by contacting you... for example, if you send a newsletter out for the organisation or for specific projects by email or to whatsapp groups...

Support Bible translation: The picture suggests that you might be inviting people to not simply support Bible translation financially, but to get involved personally somehow... if you have staff needs and there is a process to get someone from interested to training to serving as a member... this would be what they might expect to find behind this link.

This could be a page on your menu.

As you look at these three categories, if you see that you can combine two of them (because you do not have a page ready for the third) then I would recommend that you do that, and bring the link to Impact stories up to be the third one in this row.

who we are

If you have pictures that go with the text on this page that would be a good improvement. I think if you made small versions of some of the pictures that demonstrate the activities in the right column, it would look nice and add some colour and life to the page. (You do not need to remove those pictures from the slideshow or other pages)

Language project Websites

Since the Miya project is the only one with a website just now, perhaps you can say something about the Miya project to encourage people to visit it.
If you are planning to add websites for other projects you might mention that here.

The map that comes under the link to the Miya project... is that your ldbt office?

or is it the office of the Miya project? In this position it appears to be connected to the Miya project, which can be confusing.

(And what is RCCG? It would be better to introduce RCCG and explain the connection to your organisation.) This might be more logical to put on the Contact Us page, if it is intended to help local christians find your office.

However, if Christian Organisations are being targeted in your area, it may be wise not to put too much information online - remember that everyone can see that if they want to make mischief.

get involved

This is just another 'Contact us' page with no other content - so I don't think you need both this and the contact us page.
I have unpublished this page for now - and you may delete it.

If however you really want to have this page on your main menu, I think you could move the 'Partner with us' page to this position, and change the name of the page (and the text of the link on the home page)  to 'Get involved'.  Then you should delete the contact us page.

impact stories

It would be nice to add a little bit of text introducing the impact stories...This might be just to say something like, "David, Benjamin and Aaron share how the Oral Bible Translation in their languages (Buli, Baraza and Tala) have impacted their life (ministry/family/community)

since you have two you could put them next to each other in a two column layout (but if most people use smartphone to access it probably doesn't make a difference, as they should automatically go to single column...

Finished Audit 6 May '22

Thanks alot for the Audit, I have removed the map because it really seem not too relevant there and RCCG is the nearest landmark to LDBT.

We really appreciate your effort sir.

Thanks alot.

  • I have changed the "read more..." text to "Read about the history of LDBT here".
  • I have also rectified the links for the three columns on the Homepage, though they are all linked to the Contact us page.
  • We have our choice of domian to be in this hierarchy: www.ldbtnigeria.org, www.ldbtnigeria.com or ldbtonline.org

Question:

  • Is having the three columns all linked tocontact us page a nice idea?

Actually, I think it is not a good idea, since the visitor might come back to see what other content he missed, and be disappointed when there is no new information. See the continuation of my comments in the left column for some possible solutions

  • How do we at LDBT receive those messages from visitors on the website?

When we launch the site, there is a place where we fill in the email address that you would like us to have the messages forwarded to.
You may have messages sent to more than one address. See my email for more information.
